Crushed It

I recently received this email from an actor and wanted to share her success story with you!

From S.A.:

On Friday night I checked my email and saw that I had an audition with casting director Lisa B. the next morning at 9:45 am. While I’ve only been back in class for a month, the next morning I grabbed some coffee and said “fuck it.” 

Lisa is very kind to actors. She is pleasant, complimentary and lets actors try a redirect if needed to really see what they can do. Even when they suck.

Anyway, I was scared as hell cause it was my first time and there were a lot of really talented, seasoned actors there, but when it was my turn, I went in and, anxiety be damned, I dove the fuck in. 

The amount of profuse compliments Lisa hurled at me post read was truly surprising!

LISA:   “Where did you go to school???!”

ME:     “Lesly (fucking) Kahn.”

LISA:   “Lesly (fucking) Kahn. She’s absolutely terrific.”

She went on to say, “Wow!!! Talk about execution!! You nailed that scene!!! You took all of the notes I gave and seamlessly added them to your performance!!!! You’re such a smart actor!!! I LOVED IT!!!” And then about ten minutes of questions ensued which is kind of a blur.

I felt so proud. Not only ‘cause I made a fan out of a pretty damn good CD, but also ‘cause I felt like I did Lesly Kahn & Company justice. There is honor in the names of schools, and to carry your name with me into the world means more than you know. It’s my shield. And I strive to protect its honor with my work and preparation and never do it injustice by my lack of either. 

I’ve had a good day. I don’t know if Lisa is known to be overly kind to actors or if I should take her immense praise with a grain of salt, but I do know that I crushed it. Thank you, of course. Thank you so much for all of your hard work with me through the years. I honestly feel like I’m turning a corner. And I owe it all to you.
