SAG/AFTRA UPCOMING WAGES & WORKING CONDITIONS MEETINGS

By lesly kahn | November 14, 2016

This is from Amy Aquino, a wonderful actress with whom I attended school.  She is very active in the union!  Do what she says, please!

SAG-AFTRA is preparing for negotiation of the Film and TV contract by conducting a series of Wages and Working Conditions (W&W) meetings focused on various categories and topics.

This Monday, Wednesday and Friday are our only chance as rank and file on-camera principal actors – guests, co-stars, regulars, day and weekly-players – to help craft proposals to be considered for the negotiating package; unlike other work categories (stunts, background, young performers, etc) non-elected principal performers like us have had no committee and/or caucus meetings to craft and vet proposals. This is THE time for principal actors like us to show up, speak up, and vote on proposals that directly effect us:

Monday, Nov. 14 – Principal Performer Issues
Wednesday, Nov. 16 – Made for New Media
Friday, Nov. 18 – Travel & Exclusivity/Options

All meetings are from 10-1, at the SAG-AFTRA offices at 5757 Wilshire Blvd, LA 90036  – Board Room, lobby level (Parking will be validated.)

Union staff has already identified New Media, Travel and Exclusivity as priorities, and have formulated proposals. These ARE very problematic areas for us, so it’s imperative to have working principals who experience them in  attendance to shape proposals make sense for us. Tomorrow, Monday, will be the one opportunity to bring up any other issues we consider important, and to craft and vote on proposals to address them.

If you can’t make all three, or stay for the full time, please come when you can.

If you cannot attend these W&W meetings, please make sure your voice is heard by submitting proposals and recommendations by email to  wandw2017@sagaftra.org.  Recommendations must be received by Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, and will be reviewed by the Wages and Working Conditions Committee.

The TV/Theatrical Contracts expire on June 30, 2017. It’s our livelihood, and the union needs to hear from us.

I very much hope you can make it and add your voice. Please pass this on to other principal actors so they can too.

In solidarity,

Amy A.

PS:  SAG-AFTRA members who are actively producing cannot attend the W&W Committee Meetings due to conflict of interest.
