Lesly was the first person outside of myself and my mom to tell me the greatness she saw in me.

“The crippling anxiety I had getting up in class just a few months ago has decreased dramatically, which, in turn, has allowed my confidence to increase significantly. I’ve been committing myself to really doing all the steps you teach us (like ALL of the steps….I mayyyyy have been skipping some before), and trying to get to as many rehearsals a week as I can. I’m starting to look at scripts differently and picking up technicals more quickly. I oftentimes have a hard time pitching ideas because I’m afraid to be “wrong,” but I’m finding myself coaching in rehearsals in a very free and uninhibited way. It’s feeling like I’m starting to not only ‘get’ the work in a new way, but I’m also starting to get myself in brave new ways.” – KT

I feel like my entire life I have had so much passion and so much motivation to share this massive energy I have inside me with the world. However, every time I thought I was in a place where I could express it, doors would slam on my face. I was always met with hostile opposition. I knew that part of it was because the spaces I began to occupy, and the places I was elevating myself to usually were not occupied by a brown male. Everywhere I went — from college, to Hollywood and beyond, I was the first one in my family and from my hood to do so. People weren’t used to seeing someone who looked like me in their space, even though I deserved to be there. Lesly is the first and only mentor I have had that has welcomed me with love and told me how much she cares…and that’s the truth.” – BM
